The curriculum is covering both foundational and advanced topics. Students will engage with core subjects, electives, hands-on projects, and potentially internships, providing a well-rounded educational experience. The program is structured to enhance students skills.

​1.     what humanitarian protection is?

​2.     The main protection threats.

​3.     The concept of a risk-based approach, and different modes of action.

​4.     International standards and principles for humanitarian protection.

​5.     The key players in protection and the roles they play in theory and reality.

​6.     The factors that make people vulnerable to threats and how to analyse power differences.

·      Planning a programme

​1.     How to carry out a basic protection analysis, identifying the threat, who is vulnerable, who are the perpetrators, who has responsibility for protection, and who is able to take action

​2.     Ways of gathering and managing information, the practical and ethical issues involved, and understand best practice

​3.     Objectively understand the risks involved in gathering and responding to information about protection threats, how to mitigate these, and how a decision should be made on if/how to proceed

 ·      Mainstreaming protection

​1.     Be familiar with the Programme Cycle Management (PCM) model and the minimum requirements to mainstream protection at each stage

​2.     The different options for minimum response to protection threats

​3.     How to apply the different options to common scenarios

·      Programming for protection

​1.     The issues and principles associated with displacement and sexual violence, and programming options for addressing them.

​2.     How to use a logical framework to design the objectives, outcomes, outputs, and activities of a protection programme to respond to a specific threat.

​3.     How to set indicators for protection programming and monitor progress against them.

 ·      Child Protection in Emergencies

​1.     Who is a Child and why children are given priority in the humanitarian response.

​2.     Understand child abuses and risks associated with emergencies.

·      Child Protection Concerns in North Syria

​-       The perception of childhood in North Syria, and the psychological impact of the conflict.

 ·      Gender & Gender Based Violence

​1.     Understand the importance of gender in emergency response; Understand GBV and its destructive effects of GBV.

·      GBV Mitigation

​1-    How to mitigate and/or address priority GBV concerns in Northern Syria through specialized and/or non-specialized interventions with a focus on the shelter sector.


Target Audience 

This course presumes no extensive humanitarian knowledge or experience, but the focus of the curriculum is Protection within a humanitarian scenario.
